When we were on our anniversary trip in the mountains, we thought going on a hike would be something fun to do together, so we searched online and decided to hike the Rainbow Falls trail in The Smoky Mountains National Park. We have done leisurely hikes here and there, so the description of this one seemed fitting for us. Or so we thought.
It was only a 2.7 mile walk up the mountain. Up being the key word there. It was SO STEEP. It took us almost 3 hours to get to the top. We did stop a few times along the way for pictures (of course), and even came across three deer. It was amazing how close they let us get!
At one point it turned into a winter wonderland. It was breathtaking. I will say that by the time I got to the top I was freezing. We didn't dress that warm, because it was 50 degrees out and sunny that day. We had no idea this hike would turn into a five hour adventure, or that we would end up at the top of the mountain with freezing temps.
All in all, the hike was challenging but so much fun. We saw so many waterfalls and the scenery was so pretty..especially on the way down when the sun was starting to set. We definitely will be returning the park to do more hikes on our next trip! It even got us interested in checking out more trails near us here in Nashville. I think hiking would be a great activity for us to do on the weekends- especially in the fall.
Do you like to hike? If so, give me some pointers! I am definitely a newbie hiker. Thanks for reading!
