2015 Travel Favorites
Where: Cruise to The Bahamas, St. Thomas, and St. Martin
Reason: Family vacation with Chris, mother-in-law, brother-in-law, future sis-in-law, and family friends
Favorite Memory: While we were in St. Martin, Chris and I decided we would rent a moped and explore the island. We had the best time cruising around and literally drove from one side of the island to the other. Riding along side the water is something I'll never forget - gorgeous!
Where: Aspen, Colorado
Reason: My father-in-law's wedding
Favorite Memory: Learning to ski! I took ski school, and even though Chris is a great skier and needed no lessons, he took the class with me so I wouldn't be alone - sweetness. It took all day, but I finally got the hang of it, and by the end of the day I was zooming by Chris. Ok, I'm exaggerating there - but I did learn and now I'm hooked.
Where: Austin, Texas
Reason: Stranded because of snow and ice
Favorite Memory: So instead of coming home from the Aspen trip, we were stranded in Denver for a while, and then redirected to Austin, Texas...where we thought would catch a plane home. Turns out all flights to Nashville were cancelled for another day, so we made the best of it and made it a mini-vaca. We were only there a day - but we explored the trendy city and had one of most memorable afternoons at a little bar on Rainey Street where we played darts and sipped on Moscow Mules.
Where: New York City
Reason: A spring break getaway with some of our favorite friends
Favorite Memory: Seeing The Phantom of the Opera on Broadway - it was my first Broadway show ever! I loved everything about it - from the story, to the music, costumes, dancing and acting. So much so that we are booking another trip to NYC this spring break and plan on seeing Wicked while we are there this time.
Where: Cabo San Lucas, Mexico
Reason: Sun Life Financial's (where Chris works) Sales Reward Trip
Favorite Memory: A sunset dinner at Sunset Da Mona Lisa. Chris's company was gracious enough to fly us out a few days early to spend some time to ourselves before the company activities kicked off, so we decided to treat ourselves to a romantic Cabo dinner. This restaurant is stunning - we went early enough to catch the sunset and enjoyed a glass of wine while watching the big orange ball disappear in the water.
Where: Seaside, Florida - 30A
Reason: Family vacation with my side of the family - dad, mom, sisters, niece and nephew
Favorite Memory: One night we stayed in and my mom cooked the most delicious shrimp dish for supper. While she was cooking, the whole family was listening to music, laughing, and dancing around the kitchen. My parents, who have been married for 33 years, slowed danced in the middle of the kitchen, and all felt right in the world.
Where: Jumby Bay, Antigua
Reason: Tropical Getaway
Favorite Memory: Learning to paddle board. Again, Chris had to teach me, and it didn't start out too well - with me drifting off to sea and having to be rescued by a boat. But I kept trying (Chris made me), and finally got the hang of it. Apparently more people were watching than I thought, because when we went out for dinner that night, several people stopped by and said "Hey, you're the girl that was on the paddle board!" My brief moment of fame.
Where: Charlottesville, Virginia
Reason: Mother/Daughter trip to visit one of my best friends
Favorite Memory: An afternoon spent on the porch at Pippin Hill Farm and Vineyard drinking wine, snacking on cheese, and laughing. There's nothing more fun than catching up with my mom, best friend, and her mom. I love when we are all together - two generations of best friends is something I cherish and feel so grateful to have. My heart was so full that day.
Where: Asheville, North Carolina
Reason: Anniversary getaway
Favorite Memory: Our hike to Max Patch Mountain. We go for a hike on all our anniversary trips, but this one was extra special. The sun was out, the air was crisp, and the views were spectacular. We hiked to the top, saw panoramic views of the mountainside, and took a little break on the hillside to enjoy a light picnic. It was just what we wanted - nature, being together, and food.
For today's Friday Favorites, I wanted to round up some pictures and favorite memories from our 2015 travels. It was a great year full of exploring and falling in love with new places.
