Red, White and Blue

Can you believe that the 4th of July is right around the corner?! We are already half way through 2017, and that just blows my mind. I feel like I was just sharing my reflections from 2016 and my favorite posts from the year! Before I know it, I'll be writing similar posts for 2017. My mama was right about a lot of things, but she was definitely right when she said "time flies as you get older." Boy, she wasn't lying. I turn 30 (say what?) next month and honestly don't know where the years have gone. I was talking to a girlfriend on the phone just the other day about how we still feel 21 at times, but then we laughed about how we get back into check with our age real quick once we are out past 10 o'clock. Ha ha!

Anyway, the 4th of July is one of my favorite times of year for a couple of reasons. First, I love American History. I think how our country came to be is so fascinating. I absolutely loved teaching American History to my 4th graders - we covered everything from the New World being discovered up to the Civil War. It was a lot to squeeze into an school year, but it was something my students were always interested in learning about. My favorite part to teach, hands down, was the day our Continental Congress decided to declare independence and sign the Declaration of Independence. The men that signed that paper were some very brave souls, and I'm so thankful for their courageous acts. Aren't you? I am so happy to be living in America!

Another reason I love the 4th of July is because it is the week of our annual family vacation! This started several years ago when my parents decided to rent a beach house in Seaside, Florida for our whole family. We go for a full week, and it's always the best time! I look forward to it every year because I don't get to see my family near as much as I would like to. They all live in Mississippi, about seven hours away, so it's nice to have a whole week of dedicated time with my family. Plus, Seaside is just the cutest little beach town! I'm looking forward to lazy days on the beach, bike rides, and nights full of good food and game time with the family. Disclosure: we get pretty competitive with the games!

I'm on a major red crush for the 4th this year! I'm typically a fan of blue stripes, but this year I have found so many fun red pieces that would be fun to wear for the holiday! I instantly fell in love with this red cold shoulder dress because I love anything with a cold shoulder and can never pass up a fun flow dress. I dressed it up here, but it would be equally as cute with white sneakers or flip flops for those casual 4th of July cookouts. I don't have a ton of red, so I also added this dress (which is on sale) to my closet. So what are your plans for the 4th of July? I hope it involves family, friends, and good ole' American hamburgers. Thanks for reading!
